The Swiss Tutor - a work in progress
Lonely and bored, Susanne Burckhardt is surrounded by a surreal mix of Nazis, American pilots, TB patients, and refugees in Davos, Switzerland. For years, she has been punishing herself for past indiscretions and believes her inability to have a child is punishment for her sins. When Susanne begins the position of tutor to a young TB patient, she is confronted by the tragedy of war. She soon discovers the whereabouts of a famous painting that leads to something important, something everyone else wants too, including Nazi Germany.
Battling his own demons and desperate for redemption, Susanne's husband Christen works in the shadows helping the British Intelligence, until he too is caught in the web of the painting's path.
The couple's plans lead them further into a labryinth of spies, secrets and danger of exposure.
Captivated by the unusual mix of people living in "neutral" Switzerland during the war, I began to tell the story of ordinary people, flawed with insecurities, who search for atonement as they unwittingly become the keepers of Hitler's most shameful secret.
A tale of love, intrigue, redemption, and faith.
